Mission Tejas State Park is in the tall pines at the north end of the Davy Crockett National Forest, midway between Dallas and Houston. It has a replica of the Spanish mission, built by the Civilian Conservation Corps in the 1930s, the Rice family log home from the early 1800s, and 8.5 miles of trails, including a stretch of El Camino Real.

Things to do

Hike El Camino Real

The moderate Nabedache Loop passes remnants of El Camino Real, which the Spanish began building in the 1690s. Dogwoods bloom around the last week of March.

History

See the CCC-built mission replica and the Rice family log home. Tours of the historic buildings must be booked ahead.
